Quotes thread!
« on: September 03, 2011, 06:10:44 am »
I wanted to make a joke in the title, but couldn't think of any. :C

ANYWAY this thread is for putting quotes! From anywhere, be they silly or inspirational or whatever!

"Love means never having to say, 'Honey, put down the meat cleaver.'" - Can't recall where I saw this one. Probably the same place as the next one, tbh.

"If Twilight has taught me nothing else, it’s that love is the spackle that covers the holes God punches in the wall of life." - illumnaughty on the weepingcock lj comm. I'm not linking it because it's very not mind safe.

Because this forum clearly is.

Totally.

I personally love that I frequent a forum where a support thread can turn into a discussion about mysterious pen1ses.

But is the forum less mindsafe than the mindbendingly terrible **** that comprises most of weepingcock's entries? THAT IS THE QUESTION WE SHOULD ALL ASK OURSELVES. Also I'm pretty sure at least some of you are blissfully unaware of Piers Anthony's creeper tendencies.

What are you talking about. Most of the time I feel better after I've visited this forum than before visiting.

Time for a Valentine's Day quote.

"I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon."

MILD SPOILER FOR 1984 BY GEORGE ORWELL

Whatever was written on the paper, it must have some kind of political meaning. So far as he could see there were two possibilities. One, much the more likely, was that the girl was an agent of the Thought Police, just as he had feared. He did not know why the Thought Police should choose to deliver their messages in such a fashion, but perhaps they had their reasons. The thing that was written on the paper might be a threat, a summons, an order to commit suicide, a trap of some description. But there was another, wilder possibility that kept raising its head, though he tried vainly to suppress it.  This was, that the message did not come from the Thought Police at all, but from some kind of underground organization. Perhaps the Brotherhood existed after all! Perhaps the girl was part of it! No doubt the idea was absurd, but it had sprung into his mind in the very instant of feeling the scrap of paper in his hand. It was not till a couple minutes later that the other, more probable explanation had occurred to him. And even now, though his intellect told him that the message probably meant death -- still, that was not what he believed, and the unreasonable hope persisted, and his heart banged, and it was with difficulty that he kept his voice from trembling as he murmured his figures into the speakwrite.

He rolled up the completed bundle of work and slid it into the pneumatic tube. Eight minutes had gone by. He readjusted his spectacles on his nose, sighed, and drew the next batch of work toward him, with the scrap of paper on top of it. He flattened it out. On it was written, in a large, unformed handwriting:

I love you.

--1984, Part Two, Chapter I

I haven't read a word beyond that yet, and I'm so sure it's going to break in some way, but it made me so immensely happy that I had to hold it forever and show you guys.

...Hee. Hee hee hee. It gets worse, but I won't say how and how much. You will not love it so much for long. (1984's probably one of my favorite required-by-school books, next to Brave New World and Lord of the Flies, if only because they're crazy-bananas. Analyzing them is weird.)

Every time I boast that pron no longer gets to me, something comes along to remind me that there is no ground floor in Hell. - quizzicalsphinx over at weepingc0ck.

Don't ask what the context is, it's better this way.
